Hi, all. I downloaded this yesterday but the site was having problems. Pay no attention to the blank area in front- there was something non-edible the client was placing on the board.

I made this cake for one of my best friends - I'm the maid of honor in her wedding, as well as her cake decorator, so I had to make something pretty to show her fiance's family. icon_smile.gif

It was a small cake, but I think it turned out well - only my second time using fresh flowers, and I think I really like that plan!

Here are two cakes I entered into our County Fair.
They both took blue ribbons in their class, and the heart cake took Best of Show.

Did this in a hurry last night, but I'd love to get some thoughts on it. Especially on how to get the hand painting neater. I noticed it was tough to keep the color from spreading out and thinning while I brushed it.

Also did this for a Buffett concert last weekend. I know I've got a tear in the fondant there at the bottom, but it was too late to fix it.

This is my latest for my sons birthday. Don't laugh too hard at spidey - I have not done many people figures and I made his bum a bit big and then he sank as he dried so he is a bit chubby. Am thinking about entering it in a competition in a parenting magazine.

Since I am here and I don't have much luck in the ideas forum can I ask for some colour help please ? I have a 2 tier cake due this weekend. For a 21st. Black and white. Bottome cake a 10inch square white, top cake 7 inch square black. Both will have a ribbon on the bottom which is horizontal black/white stripes - not sure of the width she has not given it to me yet but maybe 1 inch or 1.5 inches - (well I hope its not a narrow one) It will have a starburst on back wires of black/white and white/black stars big and small and a number 21 in white standing up or on short wires. Anyway what colour to do the board ?? Initally I thought white with black ribbon, then something tells me to do black and a white ribbon, (or black lol) Can you help me decided which is the best way to go ??? I looked thru the black/white gallery but nothing stood out for me as the best looking way.

Since the cake goes black and then white, I would do it in black to keep the color balanced. White ribbon or black glossy. Just my opinion

These are my latest. This one was a PITA - originally did not want me to do it as it was too expensive then wanted as her mother did not have the time. She was very specific on the design and I was working thru a 3rd person who relayed info to me. She changed the ribbon from stripes to dots last minute so I put a couple of balls on wires in the star spray. She did not want just plain black and white stars joh no but two tone - was very time consuming. She thought the 21 was a little big also but I showed them to the 3rd person who oked it. It had to travel 3 hours and so I did not want to put them on wires in the spray plus from a design factor they would get 'lost' in the spray. This is my second tier cake and photo is a little off center. Since it had to travel I had to stick -I did not get the tier quite centered but it stuck so quickly I could not shift it.

This is the other one. Was for the same function as the black/white one I just did. I could not get a good green - so I sponged some colour on the top other than that I am happy with it. I wish I had an airbrush that would have fixed the problem. I did check with the client if she was ok with it as I could still have carefully painted over the green but she was ok with it. We did change the ribbon to black after the photo. The tractor took a couple of weeks to make/dry/muck about with. It was modeled off a photo and it will be kept as a momento.

Thought I would put this one on too. Its modelled off a photoshopped image specifially requested. Was due next weekend but has been cancelled for now as the lady is now sick - she was not expected to survive to 50 so this was for her 50th birthday. I will give the topper to the family to hold and if we still do the cake later on will charge them then, if not they can keep it. Under the circumstances I don't feel right charging them for it unless they offer. Was not sure if it should go into the naughty section or not unless you want to see a picture without the censored sticker !! Would hate for kids to see it looking for a donald cake and seeing it !!

Here is my most recent cake. I am happy with it but would have done a couple things differently. I would have colored the top tier a darker green and made Alice's legs more visible to the front of the cake. I also would have spent more time on the hat pins. Other than that, I love it.icon_smile.gif

Here are my latest. I appreciate all the criticism and helpful comments.

http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_1819411.html

When I was making this one, my DH was worried I was making the hands out of proportion, but I had pictures and traced the glove on paper for scale. Hubs helped deliver it and when he saw the boy with his gloves on said it was exact. I wish I had copies of the pictures to show. Oh well.

this one was a short notice cake requested Friday afternoon for Sunday - To cut a long story short she never turned up to get the cake so I removed the name/age, put some more flowers on it and a bow and gave it to a friend who was having a birthday on Monday. Hopefully will get a photo to show how I changed it.

This was a birthday cake for a girl who loves dogs, particularly her English Mastiffs. First time modeling figures. Any suggestions on how to get the "cracks" out when you are working with Fondant or Gumpaste. It seemed no matter how hard I tried I had lines in it. I know I should have written more or done something on top, but I really don't like my frosting writing. Practice I guess.

http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_1843458.html

This was an order given on Wednesday for Saturday. I was given free reign within the parameters of a jungle theme baby shower for a boy. At this point I hate free reign. I was constantly second guessing myself on the design. I would rather have someone tell me what they want and I throw in extras. This cake also gave me fits. I was nearly in tears a few times. Thanks for any suggestions.
