Ok - so I have been doing this for over a year now but I still have a problem getting the fonant to lay flat once I get to the bottom of the cake. It works fine if I have a ribon trim or something to cover it up, but it makes me so mad that I can't figure out how to get it all smooth. Does anyone have any tricks? Please!!!

one hand pulls the fondant away from the cake as the other hand smooths it down gently. think of fluffing a table cloth, one section at a time. each time you think you have a pleat, fluff it out and smooth down and just keep doing that all arund the cake.
