What a cool thread!! I just found this but I cant wait to go back through the last ten pages and check out all the cakes! I hate when they dont even make it to the homepage!

There are some very beautiful cakes out there that are unnoticed.

I don't know if it was very unnoticed...but it is my favorite cake to date. This is my first wedding cake. I was very proud of it and so was my sister...as it was for her. It was my first attempt at fondant loopy bows also. I am more of a hobbiest at this time, but would love to eventually be able to do cakes full-time. I know I have a lot of practice to get better, but I love what I do....and isn't that what matters most?

I did this cake for my friend Tiffany. I know there could have been improvements to it, but overall I thought it rocked. I made it to match the invitations to the baby shower.

I had started early on the gumpaste dogwoods, the statues, the board and the columns. And then my mother died the saturday before it was due on that next wednesday and the rest was baked and decorated through the middle of funeral arrangements and family visiting. On the day it was due, I delivered it to the site, at 8:30 Am and then went to the funeral at 10 am. It was one of the hardest things I have ever done, but I knew she would have wanted me to finish what I had started.

I am so proud of this cake, especially since I pulled off, imho, so many techniques that I had never done before! It was my first competition and I believe that I gave a good accounting of myself.

I had never used modeling chocolate, had never stacked a cake, never decorated with royal icing, never made flowers, never used brushed gelatin or piping gel, never made "water" and never used gumpaste before.

I also hand lined and painted all those bricks and I didn't have a brick mat and had to figure out a creative way to get the tiers stacked with the columns that I made.

Well, I'm going to join in with all of you. It is very hard to compete with all the experienced professionals. I was very excited to post this one, I know it has some flaws but I am very new to fondant. But it has been "unnoticed"

In the end, I think you get into more folks' Favorites if it's a cake they could see themselves replicating at some point (or at least some aspect of).

Here goes ... I was so proud of my first shoe box cake , I even made coach sandels for the topper . It was my daughter in laws bday and she wanted something coach for her bday . My son couldnt afford the shoes she wanted so he thought it would be cute to surprise her with this lol! He did get her a coach gift card though . I couldnt wait to put it on cc to show it off . Then it went unnoticed for a while but now I see it has been noticed lol! poor ole pitiful me lol! Oh yes and my dog cake
