Should Cookies Covered With Royal Icing Be Refrigerated?

I want to make my first!!!! cookies with flooded icing made usng real egg white and I was wandering If I have to refrigerate them when they are done.
In general, how long do they last?

No, you don't need to unless the cookie itself needs it. RI lasts better out of fridge - the moisture there could kill it.

I make gingerbread cookies - these are indestructable. I bake one batch before Christmas (before St. Nicholaus) and if they aren't eaten, they can last till the next batch month before Easter. All of it in sealed box at room temperature.

RI has so much sugar in it that as soon as it is dry, nothing can happen to it.

I've never tried it with real egg whites cause I'm afraid to do that. I just use Antonia74's RI recipe. It uses MP.
