Vegan Cake

I have a request from a customer for a vegan wedding cake. I found 2 vegan recipes (vanilla & chocolate) and tried them both out today. They both seemed to be fine for me as far as being a nice sturdy cake, but I am not so sure about taste. Although the bride may be happy with them, (I don't know, we haven't had our meeting yet) I thought that they were bland and didn't have much flavor. Is it just me, or is this how they are supposed to be? Any suggestions? Thanks!

What was the recipe? I've tried many cupcakes from the Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World book that were all moist and delicious (i'm far from vegan). I'm not sure how well they'd translate to cake but surely there are some decent tasting ones out there.
