My original "mad scientist" theme, just got switched today to an April Fool's day request. Due this Sunday (3/29). She suggested dirt/worms, and asked me "to do something crazy to make it look like something terrible happened to the cake". Since it's just a few days away, and the theme has completely changed, I told her I needed to keep it simple and it now had to be cupcakes (this is a "gift cake"). That was easiest. I want to make this special for her son's 8th bday, but I'm pressed for time now. I thought of the standard "dirt cupcakes with worms coming out", but wondered if you had any wild ideas. Not too wild. No vomit. No toilets. Anyone?

That WOULD be a good april fool's joke! I'm thinking of fried egg cupcakes. I saw a pic in the gallery. That shouldn't take too long.

Some of my odd suggestions:

spaghetti looking cupcakes with fondant maggots?

cupcakes with a edible fake bloody finger and dirty nails?

cupcakes with gumpast/fondant ants, maggots and flies?

Oh, cupcakes. My first thought was an upside down cake, like the "divorce" cake.

Are you looking mainly for decorating ideas or baking/cake flavor ideas?
What about spiking the cake or icing w/lots of white pepper?
Make a reg cake but completely cover it w/cardboard or thin sheets of styro or plastic before icing?

I love the idea of "fake food" cupcakes and the egg ones are super cute and easy to do...

I would make it look like other food- I saw cute cupcakes some where that looked like hamburgers

Or possibly and RKT 'cake'. Kids would probably love it.
