I will be making a r2d2 cake for a 9 year olds bday party. It will be 4 6" circle layers stacked and 1/2 ball pan w/ buttercream frosting. Several questions...

1. What do i use for the arms? Would you just carve a sheet cake to the shape? How will they attach?
2. Good cake recipe for this type of cake?
3. How much would you charge?
Thanks!
Stef

1. What do i use for the arms? Would you just carve a sheet cake to the shape? How will they attach?

When I made my R2D2 cake, I made a pan of RKT (w/o butter) and then carved arms from them. Attach the arms with dowels.

2. Good cake recipe for this type of cake?

Any good dense cake would work well for this. WASC is a very popular choice and holds up well. There are many different flavor variations that you can the WASC recipe with. Go crazy! icon_smile.gif

3. How much would you charge?

I live in a very rural area, and for 3d/carved cakes I charge $4.00/serving (double my regular per serving price). It takes more work, more ingredients, more support than regular cakes. Price what you think is fair, but don't short change yourself. It's a lot of work and you will hate yourself if charge too little.

My R2D2 cake is in my photos if you want to check it out. Hopefully this will help icon_smile.gif Good luck and have fun! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!
