Hi there! I'm new to baking and I'm going to bake french vanilla cupcakes using Betty Crocker super moist cake mix but I don't really want to use can frosting so does anyone have any frosting recipes that would go well with the cupcake? I was thinking about doing a buttercream, perhaps the recipe posted below, but what exactly does buttercream taste like? Butter? Is it really heavy and does it hold its shape?

Ingredients

Makes enough for 1 dozen cupcakes

1/2 cup whole frozen strawberries, thawed
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, firm and slightly cold
Pinch of coarse salt
3 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar, sifted
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Directions

1. Place strawberries in the bowl of a small food processor; process until pureed. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat together butter and salt on medium speed until light and fluffy. Reduce mixer speed and slowly add confectioners' sugar; beat until well combined. Add vanilla and 3 tablespoons strawberry puree (save any remaining strawberry puree for another use); mix until just blended. Do not over mix or frosting will incorporate too much air. Frosting consistency should be dense and creamy, like ice cream.

If I use this recipe, instead of a sifter can I use this

The recipe looks tasty to me. Might want to put the strawberries in a bowl to let some of the juice separate, as you may not need all of it.

Is the picture of a flat screen? I can't tell. I shake my powdered sugar through a little sieve like this. It just gets any little bits out.

Yeah, it's a picture of a flat screen.

I'm a little too messy for a flat screen myself, but if you're neater than I am it would work just fine.
