I am fairly new to this site (but already quite addicted) and I am also a beginner cake decorater (also addicted). I have been asked to do a red velvet "guitar cake" for a grooms cake in May. I have seen so many beautiful ones on this site and I am scared to death. Can I carve a red velvet? Can I carve anything is the question? And oh dear covering it with fondant! What about the neck.......??? my husband does have several guitars. At least I'll have a model. Does anyone have tips, advice, directions..........HELP! icon_sad.gif

I have only done one and it is the Hannah Montana in my pics. I did the entire thing from cake. I do know many do the neck from styrofoam. I don't see why you couldn't carve red velvet. I haven't found anything I can't carve yet.

I did mine in buttercream. I plan on doing another one in a couple weeks and haven't decided it I will use fondant or not. But if I do I will do the neck seperate from the body of the guitar.

When I carved mine I drew it on carboard then then traced it onto wax paper. Then cut it out as a template.

Hope it helps.
