Wasc...how Dark?

I am new to WASC. (don't know what took me so long icon_redface.gif)

How dark should the top be when it is done? I use the recipe with the oil in it.
Cakes turned out fine, but when I tried to make cupcakes, it seemed overdone at the same color.
Should I be using a toothpick test for these? I usually just go by look & feel.

I always toothpick test them. Here's a batch of mine you can use for comparison.

The cupakes for me always come out lighter for me anyway. Toothpick test them and they will be done faster than the cakes because they are smaller.
