Hello Fellow Cakefolk,

I have a client that is having a 25th birthday party next week. Her theme is...kinda....."coins". One her invite she has her face on a 25 cent piece, so she'd like to keep with that.

She definitely doesn't want traditional...she wants something as over the top (as I'm able to get). (Let's avoid topsy-turvy...I had a disaster with her topsy-turvy cake last year...I'm surprised she came back to me, so I really need to make up for that with this one!)

Open to any ideas!

Thanks cc-ers!

here is a slot machine cake I did..unfortunately this is a pic from before it was fully finished lol I painted the handle black and also made a little chocolate "box" for the front and hot glued chocolate coins to wire and made it look like they were coming out of the machine down into the "box" and then flying back up and out of the box onto the table in front of it. Maybe you could do one of these?? It was very simple construction...just sheetcakes cut and stacked and then attached all the fondant to the sides like a gingerbread house in pieces and used royal icing as the glue/caulking for the corners. Couldn't have been easier!

you could make a coin purse - a purse cake with coins spilling out...

Maybe an open treasure chest with coins spilling out? I like the slot machine idea. Along those lines, maybe one of those cups you use at the casino to hold your coins?

If she is doing a general "money" theme, maybe a cake with stacks of coins and dollar bills?

Good Luck, post when you decide what you are going to do!

Do you have the equipment to do an edible image? You could keep the cake really simple. You could match her invites by decorating round cakes to look like the 25 cent piece on the front. If not, I really like Janel's idea of the coin purse- that would be really cute!

Thanks all...keep 'em coming!

I suggested to her:
Idea #1: A money bag (I was picturing a shimmery ivory with a pink bow), on its side with coins spilling out. Some coins would have your pic, some would have "25" (as if your pic was on one side and 25 on the other

Idea #2: a stack of silver coins with the top one decorated like the coin on the front of the your flyer...

She called and saif that, while she liked the stacked coins idea, she wanted something more extravagant. Apparantly its a formal affair...

She didn't like the coing purse/bag idea?? You could really make that one formal by using your idea of the shimmery bag with a bow, or maybe do an evening clutch bag that you could use luster dust or pearls on to make it fancy.

Nope, Rebekah, she didn't. icon_sad.gif

what about a wedding type cake - white with coins "sprinkled" all over cascading down.

or one giant cake decorated like a coin with her picture on it. (less formal)

hmmm...I really liked the coin purse idea - it would be more formal if it was LV or Coach?? (jk)!

Thanks Janel,

This is the last email I sent to her:

This may be going in a slightly different direction, but I'll throw it out there...I notice that this is a formal event from you
Attached is a ckae I did recently.
We could add another tier to it and (in place of the sugared rose petals) have silver coins cascading down.

Another idea:
An all black topsy turvy with silver corners lining the border. It would have bright colored spirals (think straw curls...that's what they look like) in pink and white (or whatever color you decide...they should just be bright to look good against and contrast the black cake), with a silver "25" on as a cake topper
