I tried the basic CC frosting and thought it was to sweet, is there another version that is less sweet? The one i tried was with 6-7 cups of PS and that was just to much for me and not really cream cheesey in the end.
I add sour cream to cream cheese icing.
Here's my recipe:
16 oz each unsalted butter and cream cheese
6 - 8 cups sifted powdered sugar
2 tablespoons sour cream
I made this cream cheese icing the other day. It was delicious!
2 sticks butter(1 cup) softened
16 oz cream cheese(softened)
8 cups powered sugar
2 Tbs milk
I know it's still a lot of sugar, but I only used 6 cups. Plus I used more milk, and it was definitely cream cheese tasting. Delicious I don't know what the basic cc one is, but this is great! HTH
I made this , but left out (well, I forgot ) the crisco and it was realy yummy. I'm sure it is just as good with the crisco too

Here's a cream cheese icing that is sweetened with white chocolate instead of powdered sugar. It is also a great icing to use for piping a decoration onto the cake. You'll find it at http://www.delightful-cake-recipes.com/white-chocolate-cream-cheese-frosting.html
