I don't make roses, but I do grow them. Most roses are not neat and symmetrical.
The pink rose is too symmetrical, the yellow more irregular thereby making it look more real. The pink would be nice for a sleek modern cake, the yellow for a more romantic cake.
Sort of like the difference between a beautiful woman with every hair in place, and another beautiful woman who's a little disheveled.
how was your flower making day off???
I would love to see what you made and know what you decided to do.....
So will we get to see your latest attempts at mimicking the yellow rose anytime soon? I'm curious to how it's going.
janelwaters, my rose making day off produced 6 rose buds and 3 more full roses, and a gumpaste bow. I didn't get as many done as I thought I would due to the carpal tunnel. It was a on again, off again process.
Sugar Plum Fairy - the cake is due Saturday and I plan on making photos and posting them so ya'll can see the end results.
Here's the plan for the cake:
I work full time during the week and work on cakes in the evenings. So far I have all the cake batters mixed and baked, icings and fillings made and tomorrow night will tort and crumb coat. Friday morning will cover with fondant. Friday afternoon will be time to put it all together and finally get to the fun part - the decorating...yeah!!!
The cake will be a 4 tier, 3 flavors and fillings with a piped border where each tier joins and stenciled sides. There will be roses and rose buds scattered around the cake. The topper will be cream gumpaste roses and a soft avocado color gumpaste bow. The tails of the bow will be the full length of the cake. I plan on using sugarshacks method of covering the cake board with fondant and use satin ribbon the same color as the gumpaste bow to cover the edges of the board. Whew...
Hope to post photos by Saturday afternoon/early evening. Wish me luck
I am a fan of the yellow rose. If this was your first attempt you are not far off. Yours is beautiful too. Good luck for Saturday and can't wait to see your finished cake!
