I've seen some great pig cakes and I want to try it out. Any Ideas on where to begin?? I need to make a Hawaiian themed roasted pig for a bday. Thanks
Hi and welcome to CC! Do you mean that you saw the pig cakes here in the gallery? I just tried to look, but apparently the search engine is not working at this moment (that happens sometimes.) Until you can get it to work, you can go to the Theme Cakes / 3D Cakes | Animal gallery and at least thumb thru the pics (84 pages, that will take forever, I know)...and check the photo description and comments too, to see if the decorator happened to post any info with regard to what size/shape cakes were used to carve a pig cake. The PM feature will allow you to "Private Message" the decorator to ask that specific person if s/he is willing to offer any help...that can be useful if people don't happen to see your post.
**Please excuse me if you already know this, but I noticed this was your first post **
Here's a boar in the classic "kula pig" pose, she includes info about how she carved it http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=1311311
Also, since you are doing a roasted pig, you might want to check out the instructions for the basted turkey cake, it has tips on how to get the "roasted" look on your icing http://www.cakecentral.com/turkey-ftopicp-6260237.html
Here is a thread that might help you out (roasted pig w/star tip) http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-601379.html
My other suggestion with regard to "where to begin" is to start with a nice, dense cake recipe which will be suitable for carving. You can find lots of threads here discussing best recipes for carving, but this recipe pops up from time to time: http://www.cakecentral.com/cake_recipe-6093-2-Durable-Cake-for-3D-in-Chocolate.html
No help on the pig, but I just wanted to say welcome, and see the tiny warning at the top left corner of the home page? Please take it very seriously
Thank you very much for your help. I love this site and yes I already am addicted...but never used the forum before. Thanks again!
Here's one I did. Sometimes it's hard to "see" it in your head as you're carving... when it was finished it looked like a pig from some angles, and it looked like a hippo from others! If I were to do another one, I'd change up the proportions of the body. Good luck!
