Why Won't Be Bc Designs Stick?

I'm really new at decorating cakes. So new in fact, that I'm taking the Wiltcon course 1 at my local Michaels. My problem is that my buttercream decorations are not sticking to the buttercream cake. I used the Wilton BC recipe (gag! a/p instructor, I needed to). I have smoothed the BC using the Melvira method. Anyone have any idea on why the designs won't stick as I'm piping them out?
TIA.

Are you trying to pipe something directly onto the cake? Or did you make a flower or something and placed it on the cake? Also, where are you piping? on top or on the sides? And are you piping BC on BC or are you piping with RI?

Sorry for all the Q's but it would help alot to give a better answer! icon_smile.gif

Is your buttercream too stiff? If it is that could be part of the problem.

Thanks all for your answers!
I am trying to pipe a BC design directly onto the top of a BC cake. I was piping using the #3, 4, 12 and 15 tips. I will try adding more milk to the next batch of BC.

Have a great weekend!
