Hi Folks!

I've recently been getting lots of requests for the Home and Hobby Cake Matrix that I made, based on Alice Keeler's original matrix for business use.

This matrix will help you:

-Determine cake sizes based on design, number of servings needed
-Help determine correct pricing
-Organize and price based on your recipes and/or mixes
-Gumpaste, fondant and other costs
-Invoicing for home and hobby (not for professionals but the occasional and/or home baker).

Note: Thing NOT included in factoring are some things Alice had in the original professional matrix:
-Electricity costs
-Labor costs
-Other business costs (licensing, equipment, etc)

Attached is the Matrix. You will need to have Microsoft Excel 97' or newer to use the matrix. Instructions are on the front page. Hope it is helpful to you!

Can this be used by scratch bakers? icon_smile.gif

It sure can. It's actually pretty handy for scratch bakers. The recipe workbook allows you to input the ingredients, amounts and calculate cost per recipe based on your input. For example:

4 cups cake flour @ $.50 per cup X 4 cups = $2.00
3 eggs @ 2.00 per 12 eggs = $.50

etc...

so you know the cost per recipe and it will automatically use the data to figure out the cost for, say 25 servings once you enter the necessary data like how many people your recipe feeds.

Thank you!! icon_smile.gif

I saved it to my computer and I've tried to enter my info, but my keystrokes don't seem to register. (is this on my end?)
I started with the cake page, and tried entering into the Orange on the left, but it won't work for me. I also went to Recipe page and tried entering a scratch recipe, but same thing. icon_confused.gif

Do you know if I'm missing a step? Sorry...you are very nice to share this.

Hi K2,

Hmmm... I'm not sure. Do you have your number lock on? That could be it. It isnt a locked spreadsheet although you are only allowed to type in the colored boxes, the rest are set with automatic functions, etc...

Also try saving the spreadsheet to your hard drive. It's possible you were trying to type in it from the download itself. I would save the spreadsheet and open it from your computer. If you still have trouble, let me know!

Thanks, I'll try that.

I have to ask you this... in your avatar: is that a cheese grater at the end of the slide, or is it my eyes? icon_confused.gif For some reason, it struck me as hilarious. It's a cute pic either way. icon_smile.gif

It IS a cheese grater. I have a sick sense of humor icon_wink.gif

When I first saw that picture, I thought it was hilarious!

I totally love this spreadsheet, much simpler for me to use, but I may be retarded when I ask, where is the formula for square cakes under the Master Cake Planner on the Cakes tab? The majority of my cakes at this point are square and round. HELP!!

You are SOOOO not icon_biggrin.gif

Row 53 on the "cakes" tab should say Square and not "Embossed Heart" then square.

The heart shape is above it. Row 53 is all about square cakes. Hope this helps and sorry for the confusion. I need to make a change and say Woopsie! Thanks for catching it!

icon_cry.gif I still can't change anything on my end... Do you have to "purchase" Quattro eventhough it's on my computer? It won't let me do anything new, even outside of that Mattrix. icon_cry.gif
