Has anyone found that SMBC or IMBC tastes way too buttery?!!! I love the texture of it but it taste like pure butter. Any suggestions for a great buttercream icing which does not taste like pure butter. I don't like the wilton icing made with crisco shortening. Very bad after taste in the mouth.

Sugar shacks Icing gets raves on here as well as indydebi's. I usually do a 1/2 butter 1/2 hi-ratio shortening frosting. The hi-ratio doesn't seem to leave that feeling in your mouth.

I think it depends on what recipe you are using. Some use less butter than others. Usually you can add flavoring to compensate for the buttery taste.

I personally hate icing with Shortning in it, even though I understand it can have its advantages..in hot weather.
