Stenciling Damask Pattern On The Sides Of A Round Cake

My bride wants Damask pattern on the sides of her 5 tier cake. I am trying to decide between getting a ton of cutters and doing cut outs all over the cake (time consuming and easy to mess up) or do stencils around each round cake tier. I have never done stenciling before, let alone on the sides of ROUND cakes (it seems like it would be much harder than square tiers)

The cakes would be covered in ivory fondant then the damask pattern would be very dark navy blue. Could anyone please give me good direction in how to do this in a neat manner without the worry of smudges and such? Thank you in advance icon_smile.gif
