I am making a single layer three tier cake, can I just use lollipop stick for dowels? I don't have anything to cut the wooden ones. Any suggestions?? 10,8,6 inch cakes.

You can do that..sometimes the paper will pull away from the lollipop stick....you can use drinking straws...as long as the weoght is not too heavey...HTHicon_smile.gif

You can safely go up 4-5" before you need to use support.....so I'd say no support is needed unless it is an unusually heavy recipe.
Sucker stick - *in this case* will be o.k. if you still think you need to use support.
