Hi, does anyone have a tried and true recipe for buttercream with real butter, no crisco? I have a bakery near by that makes awesome buttercream. I checked there onetime about purchasing high ratio shortening and she said she didn't carry it and doesn't use it. Her icings are made with butter. She even does some decorating. I am doing my daughters b-day cake this weekend and I want to use a" butter" buttercream. Help anyone? Thanks!
8oz icing sugar
flavouring, like vanilla, cocoa, fruit juices
i think that would do about a 7 or 8 inch cake, with a thin coating.
you just need to play with it to get it tasting like you want - more suger for more sweetness, more milk for runnier buttercream, and the flavourings might mean u need more icing sugar too. it crusts well too.
Make Italian Meringue Buttercream. You'll never go back to powdered sugar buttercreams again!
(double this for a two layer cake with decorations)
4 cups powdered sugar
2/3 cup butter, softened
4 tablespoons heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
Mix 1 cup powdered sugar and all the butter until smooth. Add 2 more cups of the powdered sugar, blend well. Add liquids and beat well. Add the last cup of powdered sugar gradually, beating well.
