I've read questions from CC'ers regarding how to make recipes dairy free. There are many of us decorators and on this site in particular who bake only strictly kosher. As such, many of us will bake without any dairy ingredients (milk, butter, sour cream, etc.) or any derivatives at all. (That is because dairy cannot be eaten togehter with meat ingredients and what if the cake will be served at, say a wedding where the meal is a meat one - milk products unto themselves can be kosher ) Since milk can be hidden in the form of various chemicals, etc that you wouldn't know about and if you have to bake a dairy free product due to an allergy, do what we do! Shop in a Jewish store if you live near a Jewish community - ALL stricly kosher products will have a marking near the kosher symbol to indicate if it is dairy in ANY WAY or if it was made on dairy equipment. If you would like more information as to the closest Jewish community to where you live and which markings on the package indicate the Kosher status and the dairy status, I would be happy to guide you.

Happy Baking!
