I made buttercream icing and then colored it green ,and later that day when I went to putit on the cake it looked like icing color had seperated from the icing.It looked like it was green and white instead of blended into one color.Any ideas of what went wrong?
are you sure you blended it completely? Sometimes, I will have a bit left in the bottom of my kitchenaid bowl/whatever bowl i'm using and realize it's not mixed up all the way.
If you are sure that it was completely blended, then my only other thought it what happens to my icing if it gets too warm, where the oil separates from the rest of the icing. I just mix it with a spoon/spatula and it's fine.
HEAT!!! even if you dont think it is warm if you keep your heat at 68-70deg and the icing if sitting out it over time will seperate.
