Hi everyone! I was wondering if someone could kindly assist me on how to carve out stairs on a cake? or making stairs to go along side a cake out of fondant? I'm making my niece a castle cake for her birthday next weekend, and I've seen cake pictures here on CC with stairs that have been carved out and/or made out of fondant. I would love to know where to begin on how to do that? As well, how to cover it in fondant afterwards to make it look realistic? Help would be greatly appreciated so much!!

I'm not very experienced with fondant. However, I think covering stairs with fondant would be tough. The stairs that I have seen were made of gumpaste and molded into stairs.

Here's an idea . . . make stairs out of RKT and cover with fondant "cobblestones". That would look really cute and have a different textured look alongside the fondant covered cake, (which I'm assuming will be covered smooth). HTH
