In my country you make your own birthday cake - period :-D That's the way it's always been - you invite people over for a birthday party, you bake a cake. So this must be a cultural thing, if that's frowned upon in some places!

If I didn't make my own cake there wouldn't be one.  Nothing sad about making it as I enjoy doing it.  And besides, I get a better cake than anyone else I know!

haha I had the same replies after I told people I was making my own birthday cake. someone bought me another cake to make me feel better....I just love making cakes though
