I'm a newbie to cake making and I was wondering if I was stacking a 10'' cake on a 14'' would I actually make two 10"" and two 14'' and then put filling inbetween the layers before I stack them together?? I see so many wonderful, beautiful cakes on here and I would like mine to have the height of alot of the cakes I see on here! Sorry if this seems like a silly question icon_redface.gif but like I said its all new and I'm still learning

I have stacked a few cakes but what I did was torte and filled them so I guess my real question is.......would it be easier just to make two of the same size cake and then put them two together instead of torting?

I always find it easier to bake two layers instead of torting... especially if it is a larger cake.
