I made a cupcake cake previously for a friend, and used a crusting buttercream. (In fact if I do remember correctly it was indydebi's recipe)

I just had another friend ask if I could make her kids one for V-Day, and thought I would ask you all to see what you use for your icing!

Thanks!!!!

I use buttercream and bettercream, the one you buy liquid form and just whip it, you can add different flavorings, and tastes like cool whip. The Cinderella one I used buttercream and the christmas one with bettercreme

Umm.. I love the Buttercream Dream. But now there is a Doctored Buttercream Dream as well. (It has 1 cup of crisco so it stands up better to things instead of being all butter). But seriously, delicious!!

Will it effect the Buttercream Dream recipe by adding 1T of Meringue powder? Is it even necessary? My old recipe had meringue powder. And does this icing crust?

Buttercream dream crusts nicely and I never add the meringue powder (I heard on here that meringue powder doesn't have anything to do with whether an icing crusts or not).
I use a modified BC dream since I live in a place that is usually 90% humidity, I add 2T dream whip and some different flavorings that the original recipe.

Korensmommy....we're neighbors...I understand the humidity..thanks, I want to add the dream whip...but will eliminate the meringue powder if it isn't necessary.

Thanks Susie icon_biggrin.gif

Hi neighbor!
Here is my recipe for BC Dream, no need for meringue powder.

2 sticks *salted* butter
1 cup shortning
2lbs powdered sugar
flavoring: vanilla, creme bouquet & butter
2 tablespoons dream whip
6 tablespoons water (less in the summertime humidity)

It does crust but if the humidity is high (when isn't it!?!?) I put it in the fridge for about 10 minutes.

HTH!

Please PM me if you know of any good cake supply stores in this area!

Yes, the Buttercream Dream will crust, at least it has every time I've made it.

eldag0615, your cakes are beautiful!

CarolAnn Posted 11 Feb 2009 , 6:36pm

I just use bc for my cupcake cakes. I don't see much difference, if any, with using meringue powder in my bc. It crusts enough either way.

eldag0615, that snowman ccc is THE cutest!! Just love it!

What is "dream whip" ??

dellswife Posted 18 Feb 2009 , 1:44am

I used the buttercream dream but used all salted butter instead of half and half.
My husband LOVED IT!

Marmette Posted 13 Mar 2009 , 7:27pm

whats dream whip

dellswife Posted 13 Mar 2009 , 7:34pm

Dream whip is a powder you buy to make cool whip/whipped cream.

chassidyg Posted 13 Mar 2009 , 7:40pm

Bettercreme is yummy also!

CourtneysSweets Posted 15 Mar 2009 , 2:07pm

dellswife Posted 17 Mar 2009 , 1:18am
