Hello all,

I am making gumpaste roses for the first time and the form looks pretty good for a beginner. However, the gumpaste looks dry and has small cracks as it dries. Is my gumpaste too dry to work with or is there something that I should be painting onto the petals as I assemble them? I am using colored gumpaste and not adding any other colors or accents to them. Please Help!

What kind of gumpaste are you using? I have found that most store bought gumpaste is hard to work with and is dry and crumbly. You can try adding shortening to your gumpaste until you reach the consistency that works for you. I think your best bet is making the gumpaste yourself (I use Nic Lodge's recipe) and putting in the color you want before adding the powdered sugar. I usually 1/4 his recipe and have had much success! I hope this helps you.
