Hello,

I am asked to make a cake for an older male...
My problem is they have no theme they just want me to do "whatever???"
I get so lost for ideas when people say that and on top of that they want a sheet cake...
Please help with any ideas...

Thanks in advance to all of the great "cake" minds out there!

Guys are always the hardest to come up with ideas for, aren't they?? It's not like you can throw flowers on the cake and feel like it's very "manly"!! When the customer doesn't give me any ideas, I usually try a mini questionaire on them, asking for info... favorite: sport, team, hobby, religious?, favorite scripture, food, drink, sayings, colors... etc.

If they still can't give me anything there are always cakes that have:
balloons, scrollwork, stripes, plaid, grapes, etc.

Here are two different cakes that I have posted here at CC that are relatively generic.

The book/grapes one is an earlier cake of mine... I usually dress them up better by adding gold luster dust to the edges of the pages... putting in detailed bookmarks... things like that.

The other one does have a flower, but it's a dogwood... seems more masculine then some.

Anyway, good luck!

I like the the cakes with three different colors of fondant tiles for guys. It is not girly at all. You can tile the sides and then maybe the corners up on top.

Men are tough. Honestly if I had to make a cake for my DH it would probably be a cell phone cake. How about just decorating it with choc. dipped strawberries?

Thanks for the ideas so far!

Guy cakes are always the worst for me without a "theme"...

I tried the questionaire thing...I got "do whatever"...yeah thanks...lol

Well I am to start tomorrow, so hopefully I get some more ideas...

Thanks again, and I will let you know what I come up with...

no...men are easy...

cut the froo-froo!

the best cake is the easiest.

9x13 chocolate --- still in pan --- with a big ol' thick layer of chocolate icing dumped on.

there -- done -- now get out of my way as I DON'T share it!

Why dont you take Doug's idea and run with it?

Make a chocolate sheet cake, put fondant on the sides and color silver to make it look like a cake pan. Glob some decadent fudgy icing on the top. That way the cake looks like its a cake in the pan. Just an idea...

Guys are hard to decorate for...
