Why is it illegal to make a Mickey Mouse cake but not to make a cake that looks like an Ipod.

Mickey Mouse is trademarked while the iPod is patented. I believe that is the distinction.

So, you can make a cake that looks like a Wii, guitar, and other physical objects that are patented, but something artistic (and trademarked), like Mickey and his pals, you cannot.
