I am flying home to Canada from San Diego, and the weight of my cake stuff is going to KILL me.. can I use Petal Dust to color gympaste/and fondant, or should I use gel colors?

I am taking the petal dust for "extra color" but can I use it for a base color?

Do I just mix it in? Do I need to add more Crisco?

Help and Tips would be great!

Taylor

Hey Taylor. I met you at cake camp in Nicholas Lodge's class.

What about coloring your gumpaste/fondant before you go. I wouldn't think that using petal dust alone would get you the results you are looking for.

The dust won't work to color unless you're just painting it, which is time consuming. Color the fondant before you go, or just pack the colors. Or find a place to buy them at the destination. Or order them online and have them shipped to arrive at the destination. I wouldn't take them on the plane with the cost of extra weight these days in baggage.

I flew to CA to do my cousin's cake in Sept, and I shipped my cake stuff UPS a week beforehand for $10.00 for all of it in a big box, with room to spare. I don't know about international shipping though...then my cousin shipped it all back to me in the same box after the wedding. Worked great.

We won't, however, mention the $270 it cost me to ship the CAKE layers down...no, we won't mention THAT. icon_razz.gif
