What is the best frosting/buttercream to hold a swirl ie. 1M on a cupcake..

It is not the flavor or type but the consitency. Too dry and it is hard to swirl and crumbles... too soft and it won't hold the shape. Start on the dry side, and add liquids. Like many say... practice, practice, practice.
