Advice On Timings For Baking And Decorating...

Hello,

I am making my first fondant cake and just wanted advice on timings.

The party is on Saturday so I baked the cakes last night, waited until they had cooled and then wrapped them well in cling film and left on the side.

Am I OK to do the crumb coat today and also the complete fondant covering and decoration?

Hi again! Everybody do things differently, according to there own preferences. So this is how I do it. I bake the cake on thursday morning. Let it cool completely, and then fill the cake in the night and wrap it very well with clingfilm and leave it to settle overnight. Then I crumbcoat in the morning. Then cover the cake with sugarpaste and do the decorations. If there are models going on the cake, I make them at least a week ahead.

For weddings, I bake on Wed. and frost/fill and fondant cover on Thurs. Decorate Thurs/Fri. I think some good advice is to make one of YOUR cakes and test it out each day, making sure it's still delicious.
