Yeah, me too. icon_redface.gif After OSSAS last year, my hubby and I took off all week and spent it in Tulsa playing vacation. We went to a really cool museum (the name escapes me now) and I took alot of photos. I'm an amateur photography. What were the majority of my photos for? cakes, of course! icon_lol.gificon_biggrin.gif

My hubby is pretty bad too. He doesn't cake but if anyone new comes to our house, he immediately signs on to the computer, comes to cake central, signs on as me and starts showing them my cakes! Tonight, we watched the end of VH1 greatest hard rock songs of all time and when that ends, he flips over to FN for the cake challenges, that we've seen several times before. It cracked me up, from hard rock to cakes. icon_lol.gif

Hey, anything I can do to help, ya know?

But seriously... I still have a few very welcome dreams about Johnny Depp and a few choice others, I mean, I'm not totally beyond help! icon_rolleyes.gif I'm embarassed to admit I really did have a great one about Alton the other night though. It makes me blush just saying it! Hehehe!

Has anyone ever asked you how many hours you put into this cake -- and after you tell them how long they look at you icon_confused.gif and ask WHY?

"Why put so much work into it if its only going to be eaten anyway"?

What would YOU tell them? (I'm not very quick with the return comments anymore) . . . All I know is that I'm Addicted . . . call me . . . SUPER DORK! icon_razz.gif

Good Answer: Because if they wanted a crap cake, they'd have gotten it at XXX. (Insert crappy bakery name)

Better Answer: Well, how much time do you spend on your hair, cuz it still looks like crap.

ok i am 6' foot tall 268 pounds and all around guy .. it seems as though my son thinks of me as a guiddy school kid everytime anything cake comes up examples magazines , food network challanges , WE channel, list goes on ... so i too have done many "happy dances " but i have gone as far as adding the flapping arms .. so i too am the cake dork and proud of it. It is a creative outlet that i can take pride from seeing the cake go from idea in my head , to paper than to a wonderful cake for a special day. gives my chills hmmmm looks like another dance on the way icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

Exactly!! I mean, I have this weird thing where I won't leave the house without a shower, but I know the value of a ponytail and 'naked' face. I have two kids... makeup is a luxury I only have time for on special occasions. Fortunately I'm just SO dang goodlookin' that it's not really an issue, ya know? Bwahahahaha. Riiiiiiiight! (Just go with it!)

No, no, no my dear... I am Elvira's fat sister!! I had to quit dying my hair black after I had kids... they were 'giving me away' if you know what I mean. A gal with jet black hair pushing around two little tow-heads... yah, my guess is someone is dyeing, and it's probably not the babies!

Yup I do too. I dream of endless pretty cakes and cupcakes. I get virtually no orders so the cakes I do make are primarily for home consumption. But that doesn't stop me from imagining all the flowers and colors and whatnot. I can pretty much visualize a cake before I decorate it.

I've been to at least 12 ICES conventions and that was pretty much my only vacation all that time.

My Webshots photo site is full of cake and sugar art. I have signed up for a photo group to learm to take photos of PEOPLE and LANDSCAPES and whatever other people photograph!

But judging from the other posts in this thread, I'm only a dork in training! I have much room for improvement -- I mean, advancement in the field of dorkdom!

(To the tune of Monty Python's "I'm a Lumberjack": )
Oh I'm a cake dork and I'm ok!
I bake all night and I ice all day... thumbs_up.gif

My answer to "How much time did you spend on this cake? WHY???"

~So that we can all embrace the true transient nature of beauty-that why, or because the kids are grown and I don't actually have a personal life. Take your pick. He,he,he!

Hahahaha!!! Or how about, "Because I am bored, and it was either the cake, or spend day and night figuring out all YOUR online passwords and signing you up for a 'free trial' at every single crazy porn site on the net. Which would you prefer?"

SNIRK!!

Ok, I spent the weekend trying to deny it, but I fear I'm becoming a cake dork too. Particularly because I interrupted several conversations to talk about my next cake flavor experiment. Oh... and I went out in a rain storm to look for ingredients for a cake I'm not making for two weeks. Oh, and I spent the entire drive to work thinking of designs for that same cake.

One of the most difficult parts of cake-dorkdom for me is I know for a fact that I'm perfectly sane and it's all these other folks who just don't get it when it comes to cakes. I guess it's like Trekkies - you know, the people who love Star Trek? I just don't get it and I'm sure they all think they're perfectly sane dressing up like their favorite character. Ok, I'm not leaving the house looking like a buttercream rose, but I am still crazy about caking.

Hmm.. the buttercream rose thing has my mind going. One could stay in the house dressed in buttercream roses.... You think that would change your dreams?

Really, though, it does amaze me when you are in the presence of an outstanding work of art CAKE and someone just goes, "pffft...I don't know why they did all that work. It's just a bunch of sugar, etc., etc.," It used to irritate the mess out of me, but now I just know that they just don't get it!

Lisa
