I have seen letters out of fondant that are oversized and they are rolled and shaped to form letters and I am wondering how they are attached to the sides of the cake without falling down because they seem like they would be to heavy.
I use melted choc for stuff like that. HTH

What about on buttercream cakes?
The few I have made were not near as heavy as you might think.
Mine just stuck to the bc w/o a problem. Choco coould also be used.
