I am trying to make candy for Christmas. There are Santas and christmas trees. I used colored candy melts for base colors and then put them in the fridge to set. When I put the other color in on top, they smear. What am I doing wrong????? icon_cry.gif

Maybe the first layer isn't quite hard enough? I would try putting in the freezer for a few minutes first. Also, if you move around your next color of chocolate at all (with your spoon, spatula, bottle nozzle, etc.) the heat from it will cause the first to soften and smear. I know this because I did a chocolate wrapped cake last week and exactly that happened.....grrrrr!

You could try just dropping your melted chocolate in the mold then tapping several times on the countertop to get it to settle and even out. I haven't done more than one color in a mold yet though, so it's just a suggestion!
