I was just wondering...since vanilla extract is made with alcohol is the alcohol cooked out when baking? What about when you use it in icing? Usually when I take cupcakes to family events the kids mostly just eat the icing. I don't want a bunch of 4-5 year olds getting drunk off my cupcakes. (-:

No worries about that! There is not enough for that to happen. icon_biggrin.gif

yes its alcohol, and no most of it does not cook/evaporate off... but we are talking teaspoons in a whole heap of other stuff. If will be totally fine... I mean heck, I've never even heard of a recovering alcoholic (who would likely be triggered by just a little of the stuff) questioning or abstaining from items with vanilla in them.
