Wedding Cake For This Weekend-Question

I don't have the right size cake pans and prefer not to buy wilton....I'm saving for magic line. I'm making a square wedding cake....I plan to bake larger sheet cakes and then use a board cut to the shape of the cake to cut it out the size I need.

Anyone ever done this before? do you think this will make the cake less sturdy. I'm getting nervous...this is only my second wedding cake

It will work fine. You'll just waste a fair amount of cake. You'll need to chill/freeze the layers before you crumb coat, cause icing those non-browned edges is crumb-y.
