We have to buy (gasp!) buttercream for a 1/2 sheet (ordered today, due tomorrow - this is a side business and we both work full time so very little time to make from scratch). How much should my wife pick up for a 1/2 sheet cake? We need enough to cover the cake and to mix with the raspberry glaze to make the filling.

Any help is appreciated, as we are somewhat new to cakes. Thanks!

I suggest 2 pounds.
One batch based on 2# of pwd sugar is more than enough. I don't know how much that would weigh but I'd think 2#s sould be enough.
B'cream is so eary to make that the time it would take to drive to a store, shop & drive back you could get it done icon_smile.gif

Oooooooohhh it just occured to me you mean buying canned frosting @ a groceryicon_smile.gif I'd say 4 cans should do it.
Canned frosting thinns as it is stired. If it gets too think add a bit of pwd sugar & maybe a bit of cornstarch.
