My daughter is having a b-day in two weeks. She wants High School Musical cake. I have already found some GREAT ideas from fellower ccer's. I have ONE question...how do you make the popcorn? Do you use fondant and just shape it?

I just pulled mini marshmallows apart into threes (or so) and stuck them back together. I then painted the top with yellow gel mixed with vodka to look like butter.

I cut an x into the top of mini marshmallows and let them pop open. then I air brushed them lightly with brown and then yellow.

The cutting is a good job for a kid helper. It took FOREVER.

I use my "cake only" scissors and snip the top of minis twice (think scoring). Then I pinch the bottom so the top kind of splays out. I pat any sharp looking edges on the top and then place onto my BC frosted (cupcake in my case). I mix yellow gel color with a little colorless vanilla and brush the tops of the finished cupcakes. Theres a pic in my photos. It's time consuming but a really fun finished product!
