Fondant Problem

i, I am tring to mold b hand 2 raven birds for a wedding cake( lie n Balto.) Dilema, the fondant will not staysmooth, ie: folds small cracks and thats while its still in the ball. Evev when I rolled it o cover h helmet it ever got all the way smooth. I made it myself MMf with lack colorad a bt of MMflavoring. What should I try?

Usually when that happens to me it's due to these reasons.
1. I didn't have enough Crisco on my hands and kneaded into MMF

2. I tried to go into "molding" a nice, moist, criscoed up, item, with cornstarch or p.sugar on my hands and work area without washing/drying first. Must start with clean area and hands. For some reason when I mix the two, my MMF turns gritty and nasty.

Try that and see if it makes a difference!

I always have that problem. Microwave it a little, then knead in Crisco until the cracking stops.

Keep rolling the ball until it gets smooth. MMF is really not the best thing to use for molding things though....
