I had a student ask how long the fondant could be stored.

I can't find the answer anywhere.

SO...how long can it be stored once it is opened.

How about new in package?

Thanks!

New in pkg will least about 6 months.....probably longer.
Once the pkg is opened you need to wrap it over & over.....I keep it in the pkging as much as possible, wrap that tightly in plastic wrap, put into a ziploc bag, into an air tight container icon_smile.gif If it's a small amount coating it w/Crisco before all the wrapping helps a little.
I know that seems like overkill but it seems to help. Even then it only lasts a few weeks before it gets hard as a rock icon_sad.gif

I have kept mine for months at a time without much trouble. Wrap it in several layers of plastic wrap. I usually put mine in the microwave for appr. 10 seconds to soften and it does fine. I use MMF by the way.

I seal my unused fondant in a Food Saver bag and just keep it in the cabinet, the longest I have kept mine is six months although I would have no hesitation using it longer than that if I still had it (not on a client cake since I promise fresh) but for family.
