Can I frost a cake with cream cheese icing and then put fondant polka dots on it? I'm wondering b/c I know the cream cheese needs to be refriderated but I heard not to refridgerate fondant.

I actually made cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and fondant accents several weeks ago. I did put in the fridge and it made my accents kind of gooey and strange looking. Not a very good idea.

I make mostly cream cheese frosting an I do fondant accents all the time. The big thing is just don't put a bunch of water on the fondant, like when you are "cleaning" it off.

I just posted a pic of the pumpkin cupcakes I made for Halloween and they have cream cheese frosting and fondant accents. The frosting does soften the fondant a bit but I have never had them become gooey. I do use shortening or coconut oil for kneading the fondant and roll out on wax paper. This way I never have to clean off excess powdered sugar. HTH!
