Any suggestions on how to make ants? Cake will have an ant hill and ants. It is for a 5 Yr. Old., but I don't want them to be really cartoony.

I'd suggest piping them on with a #1 and Royal Icing. Maybe a toothpick to pull out legs and antennae?

This is a web site that has ANTS for you to look at and maybe use as your guide. Enjoy.

I made a halloween cake the last year with ants and I made them with m&ms and pipping the eyes and mouth, you can use different sizes and colors wich is fun for little ones and especially if they are chocolate; the legs I made them with black licorice. I hope it can helps. You can use fondant too, but for children the m&ms are #1.
I add you the reference of my cake, the picture is not so good but you can get the idea.
