I have a groom who wants this for his groom's cake. I had never heard of a shift boot before, but now I know what it is. LOL

Any tips on how best to accomplish this?

Yah, follow aleesha's suggestions.
Make 2" deep single layer cakes.......each size ie: 10,9,8.7,6 OR just the even sizes 6,8,10.
If I rememvber right the top is sort of a donut- more of a cup on an angle this could be a cupcake .

Thanks, any suggestions on the best way to get the "pleats" on there?

I think you will find when you cover the cake w/fondant it will look just like pleats. That's why I suggested 1" difference between sizes of the cakes.....make it look more pleated.

thanks for your input. I tried to back out of this cake, but he wouldn't let me. So I will be doing it in Dec. Will post a pic.

Thanks,

I don't really have any other suggestions to offer, but when you are finished, I hope to see it. This looks like it will be a fun challenge....

rocketgirl, i am planning to do the 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 rounds because I need more servings than the dome pan. But that is exactly what I've been thinking about doing the rings and draping the fondant over.

Thanks everyone,
Susan

Oh! Duh, wonderpans serve like no one! Glad you liked my idea...

the 5,6,7,8 thing will work just fine.

I am think you should put a ring on the edge of it.... somehow... oh i don't know.

good luck. don't forget to post a photo icon_smile.gif
