I have a cake request that requires a half sheet cake with a toilet paper roll (6in cakes stacked) placed on the top left corner (like many on this website.)

My question is, how can I do this without it ruining the sheet cake? Should I use a cake board under the roll of toilet paper and/or dowels?

I am quite an amateur and really do not want to waste time and ingredients!! Thanks so much!

Yes, you probably do need to use both a cardboard circle and dowels. Generally speaking for every 4" of vertical height you need support. You could chance it, but I wouldn't. Better safe than sorry.
