I was trying to make my first cake using buttercream but everytime I try to make the buttercream it comes out looking separated. What am I doing wrong please help? Is it the air in my house or what? How can I make a fool proof buttercream for crumb coating? I have mmf but I need to a crumb coat.

How do you mean seperated? I'm not sure what you mean by that.
There are several good recipes on here. The one I use most often is 2 cups powdered sugar, 2 cups crisco, 2 tbs butter flavor, 2 tbs meringue powder, 2 (or more) tbs or milk (or water). That's what I use. It comes out perfect every time.

beth2027 -is that really 2 CUPS of powdered sugar? Wow, I don't think I've seen a recipe with that kind of ratio before, does it crust?
hpcakes -I'll offer up my recipe too if you're doing some experimenting icon_wink.gif
