How To Use Fresh Sliced Strawberries????

I have a bride that wants fresh sliced strawberries for the filling.
I feel like it should be mixed with something to hold it all together.
Any suggestions?
something plain/simple that won't interfere with the flavor of the strawberries like a vanilla custard or bavarian cream usually work best.
I have made a creme filling...like a sweetened stabalized whipped creme...and then I just slice or "chunk" the berries and push them into the filling before adding the second layer...I have recieved rave reviews for this application.
