Tinting Cream Cheese Frosting

I have an order for a 2 tiered square cake 8 and 12 inches. The top layer is red velvet and the bottom layer is butter flavored. Here is the catch the want the icing tinted black. They want cream cheese icing on the red velvet and vanilla buttercream on the butter layer. Can you tint cream cheese icing? I advised the customer that they would need to keep the cake in a cool place because cream cheese icing melts quickly. The cake is going to be out in the open most of the day because it is an all day long grownup party. Any advice?

wesha try earlenes cakes. she has a recipe for cream cheese frosting that does good when left out and tints well as for black maybe you could use chocolate cream cheese add blk. to it. sammie
