My bff asked me to do a cake for a funeral wednesday. A very close family friend had a heartattack last night at 57yrs old and died. She very upset of course so she asked me I told her no problem she said she would leave it up to me on how to make it look.
Now I dont want to do an overdone cake for a funeral.
Let me know what you all think of this idea.
I am going to decorate it nice and simple Make it look like the cake in the link below minus the hotpink bow and put a single edible red rose on a stem ontop and she is going to have a card filled out ...
What do you think? This is the 1st time I have been asked to do one for a funeral and I dont want to overdo it.

I've made cakes for funerals before.
Usually I make a very nice generic, no theme round.
Here is a b'day cakes, similar to one of the funeral I have made:

My feeling about a cake for this event is it's for the living. They need something pretty, nice to take there mind off the reasone for the event, even if only for a minutes or two.;
I usually do a sheet cake, mark it off into 2" squares using a small shell border, and pipe a small rosebud or forget-me-not in the center of each piece. It makes a nice simple presentation and is easy to cut and serve.
I just do a simple cake usually chocolate because everyone likes chocolate. Keep it very simple.
She just sent me a text and said she wanted it round. so I think im gonna do the round cake with scroll and the rose.
Here is the cake all done she will be picking it up later tonight she also wanted me to put his racecar number on the cake. he apparently just finished a race got out and had the heartattack right then.
