Ok, so I've seen many of the pregnant belly cakes and I LOVE THEM and have just been asked to do one. I've seen several posts about making them, and just want to run this past all of the fabulous thumbs_up.gif decorators here

This cake needs to feed 50-60 people, they only want the belly, no sheet cake underneath. should I just make a 12 inch round and let it "dome" while cooking? any other thoughts/ideas/tips/suggestions?

**YOU** are the decorator/designer.
Don't let them tell you how to create it.
I don't think it will look good at all unless there is somesort of 'base' cake under it.
I would put it on a 16" round.

I agree with kakeladi!

I did one with a sheet cake underneath, which supported the design, but it's not obvious that it's there.

Here's the cake:

Here's what the cakes looked like "nekkid":

Hope this helps!!

Have they seen any with a sheet or other type cake underneath? Maybe they are just having difficulty picturing it. I think that would be the only way to get enough servings unless you complimented it with cupcakes or something.
